Habit of Growth: Saprotroph

Detailed description


Cap: 6-10(15) cm across, young trapezoidal, later convex with a flattened center, old flat, smooth, dull, white, middle darker, covered with cup skin which is when old weak tearing scaly, margin is inrolled and hung with white veil remnants.
Hymenophore: first are lamellae pale, later pink, old dark purple brown, narrow, free.
Spore print: dark purple brown
Spore: broadly elliptical, 4,8-6,4 x 3,5-4,2 μm
Stem: 6-10(15) x 1-2,5 cm, cylindrical, base bulbous, first full, later hollow, with a white ring which is membranous and thick, under side is brownish and scaly, surface over the ring is white to flesh pink and smooth, under the ring white and longitudinally fibered, yellowish if rubbed.
Flesh: white, if cut yellowish, thick, odor like phenol especially when cooked, taste is mild and unpleasant.
Habitat: gregarious in gardens, parks, meadows, grows from summer to fall.
Edibility: poisonous
Remarks: similar with Agaricus arvensis, which odor is also phenolic, but is different colored.
