Detailed description


Cap: 5-10 cm across, obtusely conical with a plane disc when young, later hemispherical to convex, finally expanded and plane with a plane umbo, dull to satiny surface, radially fibrillose, white milk when young, to cream yellow colored when old, margin incurved for a long time, joined to the stipe by a membranous veil, later projecting beyond the lamellae.
Hymenophore: smooth, thick-walled spores, first white to purple, later gray-brown, edges finely crenate.
Spore print: purple-brown
Spore: elliptical, 5,2-6,4 x 3,7-4,6 μm
Stem: 6-11 x 0,8-1,5 cm, cylindrical, base often bent and clavate to bulbous, also with a marginate bulb, solid to hollow, fragile surface above the annulus smooth, whitish to later brown, white pendant, smooth upper surface, lower surface is coarsely floccose.
Flesh: white, slightly lilac in places, thick in the center, thin toward the margin, mild pleasently taste, odor like anise.
Habitat: grouped, to slightly clustered in hardwood and coniferous forests, grows from summer to fall.
