Mushroom is not protected
Cap: 4-15 cm across, first conic, later campanulate to flat spread, middle is blunt bumped, smooth, greasy, dark brown red, lighter to yellow red, margin is sharp, smooth, little lighter and weak striate.
Hymenophore: lamellae are yellow to gray yellow, later orange yellow, on stem notched, broad adnate and with tooth little decurrent.
Spore print: white
Spore: cylindric-elliptic, (6,2)8-9(11) x 4,5-5,6 μm
Stem: 5-9 x 1-1,5 cm, cylindric, base is tapered, red bis orange red, against base yellowish, rarely completely yellowish, whitish, longitudinal fibered to little fluted, dry, base is rooting and whitish, fragile, rigid, flesh is whitish, against margin yellow, pithy full to hollow.
Flesh: whitish, under cup skin dark gray red, thin, fragile, no odor, taste mild.
Habitat: solitary to gregarious in pastures, grassy roadsides, grows from summer to fall.
Remarks: Hygrocybe acutopunicea is synonym, it is smaller and has yellow cup.
