Detailed description


Cap: 5-13 cm across, first spherical to hemispherical, later convex to plane, sometimes undulating, center is indented, young smooth, dull, light brown, dingy brown, later splitting from the margin inward to form concentric appressed squamules on a whitish background, margin is smooth, projecting beyond the lamellae, sometimes hung with veil remnants if young.
Hymenophore: lamellae are pale pink to flesh colored, later dark purple brown to black, narrow, free to adnexed, edges are smooth to whitish.
Spore print: purple brown
Spore: broadly elliptic, 7,1-9,7 x 5,2-6,4 μm
Stem: 5-8 x 2-4 cm, cylindric, solid, rigid, white and finely longitudinally fibrillose to litle squamose above the annulus, first white and longitudinally fibrillose to squamose below, later increasing gray brown toward the base, if touched browning, annulus ascending, thick and swollen while the stem is expanding, later projecting only little and angular, upper surface is striate.
Flesh: white, first if cut orange, later increasing wine red to red brown, then fading, thick, odor is aromatic sour fungoid, taste is mild, aromatic nuty.
Habitat: gregarious to clustered in gardens, in parks, on compost heaps, mostly cultivated, grows from summer to fall.
