Habit of Growth: Saprotroph

Detailed description


Cap: 2,5-5,5 cm across, first convex, later plane, with an obtuse umbo or sometimes indented, dry, dull, smooth to pubescent tomentose, spotted or somewhat zoned, young whitish, later remaining or becoming gray brown with a lilac tint, margin is incurved and inrolled for a long time, in age undulating.
Hymenophore: lamellae are first white, later creamy to gray ocher with pink tones if old, broad, decurrent, strongly forked near the stem.
Spore print: pink ocher
Spore: broadly elliptic to subglobose, subpolygonal, coarsely tuberculate, 4,5-6,2 x 3,5-5 μm
Stem: 3,5-5,5 x 0,5-1,2 cm, cylindric, on the base and on the apex sometimes enlarged, young solid, old hollow, rigid, elastic, if cut not discoloring, whitish tomentose on a whitish to gray brownish background, toward the base white tomentose and with white rhizoides, if touched the cup and the lamellae turning black.
Flesh: whitish, thin, if cut redenning and then fading, but also blackening, odor is farinaceous rancid, taste is farinaceous and quickly bitter.
Habitat: gregarious, rarely solitary in hardwood or coniferous forests, parks, on soil among grass or leaf and needle litter, grows from summer to fall.
Edibility: inedible
