Detailed description


Cap: 3-10 cm across, first convex, later flattened, margin downwards, old expanded, dented in the center, smooth surface, in wet reddish brown with lila tint, in dry light cinnamon, middle darker, zoned, slimy, sticky, margin velvety, smooth, sometimes ridged and lighter if expanding.
Hymenophore: first are lamellae white, later light pink brown, with red brown stains, some forked, broad.
Spore print: light cream
Spore: broad elliptic, 6,1-8,8 x 5,8-7,2 μm, ornament, from numerous warts and ribs, which are knot-like morely connected in a net.
Stem: 3-6 x 0,5-1,2 cm, cylindrical, full, smooth surface, first light pink brown, later wine brown, especially down the base, on whole surface longitudinal veined.
Flesh: white, on the base purple brown, odor unplesant, later when drying stringent, taste mild. Milk: white to light cream, when drying green, mild.
Habitat: gregarious at oak, in hardwood and mix forests, on acidic to alkaline soils, grows from summer to fall.
Edibility: edible if cooked.
Remarks: similar with Lactarius serifluus, which has ocher to red brown cup, and is unzoned.
