Detailed description


Cap: 6-12 cm across, hemispheric-ovoid-campanulate when young, later convex to plane and often with a small umbo, lubricous surface when moist, smooth and satiny when dry, ocher to yellow-orange, margin acute, striate up to one third of the distance to the center.
Hymenophore: lamellae are smooth, hyaline, whitish, free, slightly floccose edges.
Spore print: whitish
Spore: globose to subglobose, (8,8)9,7-11,7(13,6) x (7,4)8,5-10,4(11,8) μm
Stem: 12-15 x 1,2-2 cm, cylindrical, somewhat tapered toward the apex, solid stipe when young, hollow when old, fragile, surface yellow-orange, floccose-squamose on a whitish background, base stipe enclosed by a membranous volva, whitish on the outside and yellowish on the inside.
Flesh: white, orange-brown under the cuticle, thin, odorless, mild taste.
Habitat: solitary to gregorious in hardwood forests, rarely in mixed conifer-hardwood forests, also at forrest edges in grass, grows from summer to fall.
Edibility: edible only cooked
