Detailed description


Cap: 10-20 cm across, first hemispherical, soon convex to flattened, also cushion shaped, dull, finely tomentose, old glabrous and shiny, first cream beige, light ocher, later beige to yellow brownish, against margin pink tinged, under pressure dark to brownish stained and not bluish, weak sticky, margin is little inrolled.
Hymenophore: first yellow, later light reddish to blood red, against margin with yellowish zones, pores are first yellow, later green yellow, weak bluish, on stem notched.
Spore print: olive brown
Spore: spindle elliptic and with drops, 10,5-15,5 x 4-5,1 μm
Stem: 8-15 x 3-5 cm, first belly shaped, later clavate, on gold yellowish ground purple red and finely net like, apex is yellowish, against it dark red and not net like, base is pointed and gray brownish to yellow whitish, flesh is yellow and slowly bluish, full, solid, against base also reddish.
Flesh: lemon to gold yellow, reddish under the cup skin, thick, odor sourish, taste mild and fungi like, first solid, later spongy and bluish.
Habitat: solitary to gregarious in conifer forests by beech and oak, on chalk subsoils, grows from summer to fall.
Edibility: inedible
Remarks: similar with Boletus satanas, which has also pink tinted cup.
