Mushroom is not protected
Cap: 5-20 cm across, hemispherical when young, later convex pulvinate, also plane, finely tomentose surface, smooth, dry, dark brown to brown red.
Hymenophore: yellowish when young, later red, long smooth tubes notched at the stem, cup surface beneath the tubes yellow, bluing when cut.
Spore print: olive brown
Spore: elliptic, 12,5-17 x 4,2-5,1(5,9) μm
Stem: 5-15 x 2-5 cm, cylindric to slightly clavate, yellowish, dottet with red to orange flocci, solid base, solid base yellowish.
Flesh: deep yellow, immediately turning dark blue when cut, hard, firm, mild taste, odor not distinctive.
Habitat: in coniferous and hardwood forests, also at the edges of moors, or fields of ferns, grows from summer to fall.
Edibility: edible if cooked
Remarks: possibility to change it with Boletus luridus, that stem is covered with red net.
